The Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji) Door.
Truthfully, the person that she had thought about whilst opening the the door was none other than the joke-loving and ex-grim reaper; the Undertaker. However, almost instantly after thinking about her favourite character (Y/N) was surrounded by a bright light that could have easily blinded her if she hadn't closed her eyes; then afterwards it felt like she was floating for a while, before plummeting back down to solid ground. Rubbing her behind from the impact (which probably left a few bruises), she proceeded to look around at her surroundings. Her jaw nearly touched the ground
. (Y/N) had somehow ended up in Undertaker's shop, and not only that; she was now in the world of Black Butler, which made her fangirl a bit on the inside (even though some confusion was still present). That was just the beginning of the confusion though; because as she looked down in order to brush her clothes off, (Y/N) discovered that her original outfit had been replaced with this
. She looked at the parasol weirdly and a slight raised eyebrow, mainly because she wasn't outdoors and didn't need it. Deciding to keep the parasol anyway (so she didn't look too out of place), (Y/N) began to wander around Undertaker's shop; she took a great interest in how each individual coffin was carved differently so they all looked unique. In fact she was so busy admiring the handiwork of her favourite character, that she didn't notice that the door to the shop had opened...that is until she heard a familiar laugh.(Y/N's P.O.V.)
I turned around when I heard the familiar laugh of the Undertaker bounce off of the walls in the shop; smiling a bit I still stayed where I was, admiring the beautifully detailed coffins. Quite honestly, I didn't want to turn around in fear of the possibility that my inner fangirl will become loose and scare him away; come to think of it, I just want to attempt to build friendship with him. 'Obviously I can't do that if I just squeal and have heart-eyes all the time.'
Nodding slightly at my inner thoughts, I continued to look around...well until I heard Undertaker approaching me from behind.
"Looking for a coffin for a deceased family member m'lady?" he asked rather politely.
To which I shook my head and tried to act as lady-like as possible; "No I am not; actually I was just admiring your exquisite handiwork sir," I mentally prayed that I hadn't sounded rude, but it was a relief when Undertaker just smiled at me.
"Why thank you, it's not everyday I get such praise for just completing a simple task," he stated, smile still in place; I shuffled a bit uncomfortably under his gaze before asking a question that I have wanted to ask since I came here. With a questioning look on his face, I could tell that the Undertaker knew that I wanted to say something else anyway. After another three minutes of awkward silence, I just decided to spill the beans; "I was actually wondering, is it possible to travel in-between different worlds or universes at all?," my question obviously caused a shocked expression to cover his face for a little bit, but then relaxed. "If you are referring to heaven or the latter I can assure you, those places are VERY real," he chuckled, and started to move a few boxes upstairs. I pouted and puffed out my cheeks in an annoyed manner; 'even though he doesn't think I am crazy, he was avoiding the question entirely - but I can't give up now
.' Keeping that thought in mind, I asked again (a bit more serious this time- to show that I was desperate for answers); "please Undertaker, sir! tell me what you know, I am insanely confused at the moment!" I was on the verge of tears at this point. It is a true fact that I am rather confused and upset at this stage, but I refuse to just give up on my hunt for answers just yet; as I was about to yell at Undertaker again, he just responded with a surprisingly sympathetic
smile. "I am truly sorry Miss...?" he trailed off, obviously looking for an answer to his question - which I gave. "(Y/N)", I replied as politely as I could (despite the situation). Undertaker started again "My deepest apologies Miss (Y/N); but usually in situations like these, once the door to another world opens and something or (in this case) someone goes through..." he smiled at me apologetically again, and finished his sentence "...they can't ever go back to the place where they originally came." After hearing that last part of the sentence, my knees gave-out from underneath my body; causing me to drop like a heap on the floor. However, before I passed out from pure grief (dropping the parasol in the process), I made out a head of blue and raven-black hair entering the store in a rather hasty manner- then my world went black once again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Le Time Skip- 2 Hours Later- brought to you by Undertaker's gorgeous eyes!^.^
As soon as I woke up in a coffi-
WAIT A COFFIN! I shot straight up and bumped heads with someone- which just HAD to be Sebastian Michaelis. I gave him a sharp glare as I rubbed by sore forehead; I was about to open my mouth to unleash everything
on him, but Undertaker beat me to it. "Ah, you're awake!," he exclaimed before smiling that wide smile that I have always loved to pieces. I started to return the smile, but winced slightly as I did so; I then turned to a certain raven-haired Butler and harshly glared once again, he seemingly looked apologetic- but you could never know for sure with that
guy. Then, remembering why I passed out in the first place seemed to set me off again; Undertaker noticed this, and was at my side in a millisecond. Meanwhile the shop bell jingled, indicating that the annoying
Butler and Ciel had left the store. "Miss (Y/N), you have to relax and think; you may not be able to go back, but focus on what you can change and not dwell on what you can't," his words and slightly softened expression made me calm down enough for him to re-assure me that everything was going to be okay
. I knew that the Undertaker was right, and I also knew that I had accepted and sealed my fate as soon as I had opened that door. Whilst nodding my head in acceptance to his proposal, I had an idea as well; "Undertaker?" I asked, making sure he was listening. He tilted his head in question and answered with a "yes?," I filled with my thumbs, dress and fingers for a while before moving on to asking him what I was thinking. Taking in a deep breath of air, I managed to voice my question; "would it be alright if I were to stay here and work for you?."
"Undertaker?" I heard Miss (Y/N) ask, to which I replied with an instant "yes?"; this poor lady has been through enough already, so I figured that I should let her at least ask any questions that were on her mind. I was also trying to be cautious and as gentle as possible around Miss (Y/N), solely because of the newfound knowledge of her not being able to return back home. Before I could ask what was wrong (because she still seemed emotionally torn, and unable to form any words), she continued to speak with conflicting emotions; "would it be alright if I were to stay here and work for you?."
To be honest that question shocked me a lot, because you don't see many ladies working with (let alone being
) Undertakers at all these days. Before I gave my final answer however, I continued to give it a bit of thought; 'I do get lonely a lot now, and it would be nice to have someone around so I don't become a hermit
.' Then again, 'I might end up getting some strange looks from the public because there is going to be a young lady hanging around me now.'
Shaking my head at the last comment and chucking a bit inside my head I wondered 'since when have I cared about what the public think about me?.'
So with that in mind, I gave her a big smile and my final answer; "of course you can work for me Miss (Y/N), I would really enjoy your company." I was surprised to say the least when she just responded politely with an equally polite smile. "There is no need for these formalities, please just call me (Y/N)."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Le Time Skip- 8 Months- brought to you by Bard's flamethrower
Working with Undertaker has proven to be quite the task, however I have already managed to get myself out of many situations involving angry or dissatisfied customers. If I must give a list of those (more amusing) occurrences, I have had the following situations unfold; a posh gentleman had thrown his cane at me after I had explained our shop polices to him, a snobby noblewoman verbally bashed me after selling her a 'poor quality' coffin, and... oh my favourite! I had a gun pointed at me by an investigator from Scotland Yard, who had insisted that I was crazy. That pretty much sums up my time here, and I am actually starting to rather enjoy it now; I am still thinking about my family though, and I haven't been sleeping well for the past few days because of it. All the time I just bear with it though, because Undertaker has enough on his mind by just running
this place; I don't need to become extra baggage for him to carry. Sighing lightly, I lift up the front of my dress
slightly and begin to make my way up the stairs so I could get started on a new design that I wanted to try out for Undertaker's new line of coffins. I sat down at the desk on my stool, grabbed my hammer, chisel and other tools, then began to work; the Undertaker had taken some time out of his shop hours to teach me how to carve patterns into the wood. However, that wasn't the only thing that I was grateful for. He let me stay here for as long as I wanted too, and that gave me a pleasant surprise. He didn't mind having me around either, and I can tell that this social experience is helping him quite a lot; even though some folks out there still think that we are both nuts, neither of us care about what the public think anymore. Just being able to grasp all the etiquette in Victorian society has been quite a hassle for me, because I am so used to all my 21st Century slang and such. It's no surprise that Undertaker had given me a few tips and tricks about what to say, and when to say it as well. In fact, I was thinking about showing Undertaker how grateful I am for all that he has done for me by making him something. That's not all this gift is for though, because over the 8 months that I have stayed here I have grown to truly love the strange man. He may be childish, strange and just plain mysterious at times; but he has earned a special place in my heart. He'll love my present, I am sure of it without a doubt in my mind. There was only one problem though, and that was mainly because I am going to have some issues hiding it from him; he is going to start suspecting, but I am willing to take that risk. 'For my heart calls out to him, if his calls back I do not yet know' (a/n: I made that up from scratch btw)
; I love how Victorian poetry sounds in my head, it's actually really fitting in this situation. I finally feel happy about something since my home-sickness, but I know that if I'm rejected I will become ten times worse than what I am at the present time. 'Putting my feelings for him on the line is a risk that I am willing to take.'
~~~~~~~~~~~Le Time Skip- 9 Hours- brought to you by reader-chan's awesome woodcarving skills~~~~~~~~~~~
(Y/N) has been in the workshop for around nine hours now, and she had been acting rather off as of late as well; making simple mistakes and forgetting things isn't the norm for her. I know when one's body is tired, being an ex-grim reaper and an Undertaker now has definitely helped me identify these things. However, that just makes me worry a bit more for her; I can tell that she's lacking sleep, but (Y/N) can't even recognise the problems that her tiredness has caused. This is mainly because I have somehow managed to get closer to her over the period that she has been staying and working for me, and that has released a new emotion that I am hardly familiar with. 'Is this love or admiration?'
I had obviously pondered over the question for quite a while, because the sun is now setting outside and the citizens of London are beginning to head home. While letting out a bit of a sigh, I still remained a bit disappointed with myself for not being able to sort out my emotions. 'Surely I must know when I feel for someone right?'
, of course I should; the only problem now, is how I am going to be able to tell if it really IS
love that I am feeling for (Y/N). Well there is only one way to find out, and I am definitely going to do it- 'I have no experience with romance, so this might feel a bit strange.'
I acknowledged my mental note as I made my way up the stone staircase, which led to the back room; after giving myself some encouragement, I was finally able to turn the knob on the workshop door. (Y/N's P.O.V.)
I freaked out as soon as I heard the door to the workshop open, and hid my finished product
; now that I think about it, I'm really embarrassed about giving it to him. That's why I slipped a little note inside the box, so I didn't have to sound awkward- 'I'm pretty useless at confessions because I easily get flustered.'
Nodding mentally at that thought I sighed dramatically, because I couldn't confess my attraction to someone face-to-face to save my life. 'Why am I so nervous about being around an anime character that I watched all the time and knew almost everything about?,'
there's the thing you see, I didn't know everything
about him- until now
. Apparently, there is more to the Undertaker than what meets the eye; 'well, when isn't there a person that has more to them than the eyes can see?,'
I was then dragged out of my thoughts after that, because Undertaker had grasped my hand; not only that, he was now only twenty centimetres away from my face. "W-what on Earth are you d-d-doing?," I tried to act as composed as possible, but my composure was failing- miserably
. Undertaker just chuckled, and responded with a bit of teasing in his question; "what made you stay up here all day then, hm?." After that question I froze, mainly due to the fact that I couldn't tell him the truth; then again, I guess I could tell him that I made him something...but I am too afraid of being rejected. 'What if he doesn't like me?';
however I just responded with half of the truth, "I just wanted to experiment a bit more with different patterns today." Knowing lying was bad, I just started to fiddle with my lace gloves and my dress nervously and guiltily- 'well I told half of the truth right?.'
Grumbling a bit at my last thought, I decided that lying a bit just once won't hurt; however Undertaker didn't seem fazed by the lie at all, and just walked over to a sheet on the floor in the corner of the room. I panicked. 'He's going to find the box!','
I cursed at myself internally for not thinking of a more practical hiding spot for my gift; but I knew that he would have found it eventually anyway. "Is this for me?" Undertaker stated as he held up the box that I had finished carving earlier. 'Oh great, my life is officially over,'
I told myself as I let a slight nod indicate that it was for him; to be honest, I was far too nervous to speak as he opened the latch to further inspect the details...only to find the note. Gulping a bit I just stood there and waited for his reaction. I was shocked beyond belief
. (Undertaker's P.O.V.)
My emotions were all over the place as I read the note, and I felt a genuine smile turning up at the corners of my mouth; I gently put the note back in, and closed the lid of the box. Then I proceeded to turn to face (Y/N), brushing the hair out of my eyes in the process. I wanted to get a better look at her- but I could tell as soon as (Y/N) saw my eyes...she melted
. She stared at my green orbs as if they contained some sort of mystical power whilst in the sunlight, and I could tell from that look that she was certainly shocked. Then, I turned my complete attention back to (Y/N); I know I am not very good at romance in general, but I do want to say something to her - 'after all she practically poured her heart out into that note that she wrote for me.'
I then brought a smile back to my face again, grabbed both of her hands, looked into her eyes and stated (as romantically as possible);"Never before have I get an emotion this strong, it has a grip on me that I cannot remove. However, I do not wish to remove it, for I have been alone for so long that I have forgotten how to be this close to someone. Finding love in a place like this is certainly very unusual, but sometimes romance is found in the most unlikely places. You stayed with me, and actually got to know me for who I truly was; not just who I was on the outside to everyone else. And for that I thank you (Y/N)."
I watched in pure happiness (and slight disbelief that I managed to make her cry happy tears) as (Y/N) gasped whilst covering her mouth with her hands in pure shock, because not only did she feel happy that I returned her feelings; (Y/N) had just acted as though I had told her in the most beautiful way possible (a/n: of course you did Undertaker!)
. "I know that you know that I haven't been sleeping well, but now I have a new reason to be happy," I heard her whisper; it was just loud enough for us two to hear, but I smiled nonetheless. After she wrapped her arms around my neck for a hug and sobbed loudly with pure relief, I could only continue to keep my smile as I returned her embrace; but what (Y/N) did next honestly surprised me more than anything. She pulled back a little and started to slowly close in towards my face, and I knew just how to respond to the action. Whispering barely audible 'I love you's'
to each other, we continued to get closer; cupping (Y/N)'s face gently in both of my hands, I sealed our future with a sweet kiss. I let my hands grip her waist protectively in the process, as we stayed like that for a little while- however, it felt like forever for me.
If the past is unable to be changed, continue to move forward and only focus on what can be.
